Coming Back After a Break
Reintroducing cannabis after time off is its own moment, and the easiest place to slide straight back to where you were. Your tolerance has reset, so less is more. Set the terms before you light up, not after.
A lot of people arrive at moderation from the other direction. They stopped for a while, felt some of the benefits, and now want to bring cannabis back in a smaller, saner way. That's a completely reasonable aim, but the reintroduction is a genuine hinge point. Get it right and you land on moderate use. Drift through it and you're back to daily within a fortnight, wondering how. A little deliberateness here pays off more than almost anywhere else.
Your tolerance has reset, so use that
The upside of a break is that your tolerance has dropped, often a lot. That means the amount you finished on will now be far too much. The reset is a gift, and piling your old dose back on wastes it in one evening. Treat coming back like you've never had a high tolerance: a fraction of what you used to take, and wait properly to feel it before more (especially with edibles). Used well, a low tolerance is the thing that lets a small amount do the job, which is moderation's whole economy. The method matters here too. Coming back on flower rather than a high-strength cart makes "small" much easier to hit.
Check why you're going back
Be honest about what's pulling you back, because it predicts how it'll go. "I miss enjoying it now and then, on purpose" is a fine reason to reintroduce carefully. "The break got hard and I want the discomfort gone" is a different thing. That's the craving talking, and going back to silence it tends to rebuild the exact dependence the break just loosened. Neither answer is wrong to have. The point is to know which one you're acting on, because reintroducing to relieve withdrawal is how a break quietly becomes a relapse.
Set the terms before, not during
Decide your rules while you're still sober and clear-headed. The days, the amount, the "not before X." Write them down if it helps. Deciding in the moment, high, is deciding with the part of you least interested in moderation. Going in with "just tonight, we'll see" is going in with no plan at all, and no plan defaults to old habits, because old habits are what your brain still has on file. Set the terms first and you're holding yourself to a decision you already made rather than making it fresh every night.
Watch the first fortnight honestly
The reintroduction tells you most of what you need to know within about two weeks, so watch it like data. Are you holding to the terms you set, or is "Friday and Saturday" already bleeding into Thursday and Sunday? A break resets tolerance but it doesn't erase the pattern your brain learned, and that pattern will test the fence early. If the limits hold and it feels like a considered treat, you've found moderation. If they're slipping already, that's not failure. It's the same honest signal covered in Can I moderate, or should I stop?, and it may be telling you that, for now, off was the easier place to be. The T-break estimator and the wider tolerance breaks page can help you think about your next reset if you want one.
